New Reviews: Chiang, Fforde, Powers, Simmons, Stross, Wolfe
October 28, 2005 (8:48 PM) ( link )

ADDED reviews of Ted Chiang's Stories of Your Life and Others, Jasper Fforde's Something Rotten, Tim Powers's Declare, Dan Simmons's Olympos, Charles Stross's Singularity Sky, and Gene Wolfe's The Knight.

There's a real mix of gems and clunkers in there. Interestingly, the only new author in this bunch (meaning an author whose first work I was reading) is Ted Chiang, whose book is an absolutely superb short story collection.

I am now almost completely caught up: I have only one more book to review, Helen DeWitt's The Last Samurai. (Short verdict: Ok.) The next post will be my list of my favorite books from 9/2004 to 9/2005.

I'm still going through Ian McEwan's Atonement. Granted, I'm not reading very many pages a day, but that book is kind of slow. I'm still waiting for the axe to fall and for everything to go to hell, as I've been lead to expect, but so far, things seem to be going swimmingly.
