Long absence

Ahem.

So I have a bunch of book reviews sitting on my hard drive that I will hopefully upload soon. For the moment, the big news is that I managed to finish A Suitable Boy (which was all right, but way way too long), and a slew of other science-fiction books. Right now I'm chugging through Guy Gavriel Kay's truly reprehensible series, The Fionavar Tapestry, which is one of the worst fantasy trilogies I have ever read. His later works are supposed to be much better; it would be difficult not to be.

I am now awaiting the time when another blockbuster awesome book passes my way. It's been long enough since that happened: Perdido Street Station was the last book that even came close to qualifying, and before that maybe The Princess Bride, and then all the way back to Jay McInerney's Bright Lights, Big City, and prior to that the two long Connie Willis books. Jesus that is a depressing tally. Maybe I should get away from bad science-fiction and fantasy and read some real stuff for a change.
