New Reviews: Manuel Puig's Kiss of the Spider Woman and Carlos Ruiz Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind

Right now I'm immersed in another book by Peter Carey, True History of the Kelly Gang. It's good, but I guess he's just not my type: the book still isn't gripping, the same complaint I had about the equally well crafted Jack Maggs. After this, I have, oh, three days to finish 540 pages for The Corner, the book that my informal book club is discussing this month. Afterward, I plan to start Marilynne Robinson's Housekeeping (my review of her luminous Gilead is foundering for lack of enough words of praise), and then after that, by God, I will read a trashy science fiction novel. It's high time.
