New Reviews: Five of them
December 28, 2003 (1:21 AM) ( link )

ADDED reviews of Iain M Banks's Look to Windward, Daniel Keys Moran's Emerald Eyes, James Morrow's Towing Jehovah, Haruki Murakami's The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and Adam Roberts's Polystom.

There were some gems in this bunch, and some duds--not very much in between. I especially recommend Murakami's book, one of the most delightful (if weird) novels I've read recently.

December is always a good month for me in terms of reading: the Christmas vacation, despite the need to study for finals, always provides an opportunity to dig into some big books that I wouldn't have the time or patience for during the school year. I actually have a whole slew of books that I've yet to review, including Michael Chabon's wonderful The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and another, better book by Adam Roberts, On. Right now I'm working my way through Sheri Tepper's Raising the Stones, which will hopefully be at least as good as Grass, without that novel's flaws.
